Overview
About Polishing
Concern
The major concerns about glass polishing include,
- polishing efficiency
- glass polish size accuracy
- brightness
- tool's wear and tear
- tool's life time
Factors
Following factors would affect clarity and polishing efficiency,
- machine performance
- technology of grinding and polishing
- cooling method
- spindle rotating speed
- glass internal quality
- operation skill
Conclusion
Selection of proper polishing tool with appropriate correct operation will result in,
- better polishing efficiency
- more brighter
- higher accuracy
- longer tooling life time
Selection
However, the most fundamental is to choose the proper polishing tool. Followings are taken into account when selecting polishing tool,
● Type of machine or tool
Better machining accuracy and qualified parts and components will result in better polishing efficiency and longer life time.
● Type of metal and resin bonds diamond tool prior to polishing
If diamond grit size is too large, polishing may not be able to remove the grinding flaw. On one hand, this would affect clarity and on the other hand, it would increase the friction of the polishing and thus, reducing the life time.
● Requirement of finishing clarity
If excellent brightness is the first and foremost requirement, then one type of polishing tool is selected. If lower production cost is dominant, then longer life time polishing tool is used.
● Operating skill
Polishing tool is carefully checked before installing onto machine.
Polishing tool should be locked tightly.
The spindle rotating speed should be adjusted to the right RPM.
Coolant should be sufficient enough. Filtering of scrap would be recommended.
Proper spindle pressure against glass.
Proper glass moving speed.
